Youngest Ever Wychavon Community Star

Community work has been a huge part of my life for as long as I can remember. It’s helped shape who I am, build my confidence, and given me the chance to give something back to the town that has given so much to me.

My journey actually began when I was just five years old.

I was introduced to the Royal British Legion by my Godfather, and from that moment I became involved in remembrance events, parades, and the Poppy Appeal. Those early experiences taught me respect for our Armed Forces, an understanding of our shared history, and how important traditions are in bringing people together. Even at a young age, speaking to members of the public helped me grow in confidence and develop communication skills that I still use today.

When I turned 12, I joined the Army Cadet Force, which was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. The cadets taught me discipline, teamwork, leadership, and resilience. I gained practical skills like first aid and navigation, but more importantly, I learned how to take responsibility, support others, and push myself outside my comfort zone. It had a huge impact on the person I’ve become.

More recently, in June 2025, I helped form the Droitwich Cycling, Walking & Wheeling Group—a project I’m incredibly passionate about. I’ve always been interested in active travel, so being part of building something from the ground up felt really meaningful. I’ve supported governance work, helped develop the Droitwich Bike Bus, and been involved in a free bike repair hub serving the local community. It’s shown me just how powerful community-led initiatives can be.

Around the same time, I joined the Droitwich Spa Youth Council, which opened my eyes to the importance of young people having a voice. This led me to join the Worcestershire Youth Cabinet, where I now represent young people across the county and speak up on issues that matter to us. These experiences have strengthened my confidence and deepened my commitment to making a difference.

Why Community Work Matters to Me

For me, community work isn’t just about volunteering—it’s about connection, growth, and making a real impact.

It’s given me:

  • Confidence in myself
  • Valuable life skills
  • Opportunities to lead and support others
  • A stronger sense of purpose

But more than anything, it’s shown me that anyone—regardless of age—can make a difference.

A Message to Others

If you’re thinking about getting involved in your community, I’d say: go for it.

There are so many opportunities out there—whether it’s creative groups, environmental projects, sports clubs, or local organisations. These groups are always looking for new ideas, new energy, and new voices.

You never know where it might lead.

If you’d like advice on getting started or finding the right opportunity, feel free to reach out—I’m always happy to help.

Looking Ahead

I’m incredibly grateful to my family, friends, and mentors who have supported me along the way. Their encouragement has made all of this possible.

By sharing my journey, I hope I can inspire others—especially young people—to get involved, find their passion, and help shape the future of our community.
